FAQs

Hair Removal: FAQ’s

How Does the treatment work?

  • The unique system carefully filters this light in two ways to ensure that the only light with the correct wavelengths is allowed to reach your skin.
  • Hair contains pigment melanin that absorbs the light and converts into to heat.
  • The hair transmits this heat into the hair, which is then destroyed and unable to produce a new hair.
  • A thin layer of gel is applied to the skin before treatment ,to ensure optimal light transmission.
  • The operator guides the light from the flash lamp to the treatment area.

Does it hurt?

  • Tolerance of pain is very individual
  • Most people would describe it as a warm heat sensation on the skin or similar to a rubber band snapping onto the skin.
  • No anaesthetics are required.
  • There are very little side effects other than a mild redness.

Can all the hairs be treated?

  • As the hair relies on the absorption of light the hair pigment (melanin), the most suitable treatment is seen with dark hair.
  • Unfortunately it is not suitable on blond or red hair.
  • The most suitable skin type is pale skin making the treatment easier.
  • However our advanced system has pre-programmed settings for different hair and skin colours to adjust the energy output accordingly.

How long does a treatment take?

  • A typical treatment on the facial area or bikini area can take between 10-20 minutes.
  • A larger area such as both legs or back for men can take between 60-120mins.
  • A large number of hairs can be targeted in just one flash.
  • It may take anything from 10-14 days for you to get clearance on the area.

How many sessions do I need?

  • Hair growth cycle goes through resting and growing phase
  • It is only the follicles in the growth phase that contain hair and are destroyed by heat.
  • This is why it is necessary to repeat treatment at intervals until all the hair follicles have been through the growth phase.
  • To clear any area you will need to undergo a course of treatments with a minimum of 8 weeks in between, this period will increase in between later treatments.
  • Facial treatments sometimes require more treatments than body areas.
  • Treatments needed can be between 4-8 treatments.
  • One or two treatments may be required as a top up on a yearly basis following the course of treatments.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

  • It is important not to remove hair by plucking or waxing or use of creams four weeks before treatment to get optimal results.
  • This ensures that as many hair follicles as possible contain a hair
  • It is important to avoid tanning before and during the treatment period.
  • Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective.
  • Generally, no post treatment is necessary.
  • The treated area may be slightly red for 1-2 hours afterwards
  • People with very sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing cream after treatment.
  • Ensure to limit sun exposure and to use sunscreen (min 30) during and a few weeks following treatment.
Thread Vein Treatment: FAQ’s

How does the treatment work?

  • A thread vein is a small blood vessel near the surface of the skin.
  • The operator guides the visible light from the glass prism to the area for treatment.
  • The pulsed light system carefully filters this light in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct characteristics are allowed to reach your skin.
  • Blood contains haemoglobin that absorbs the light and converts into heat.
  • This heat destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein.
  • A layer of gel is applied to the area prior to treatment to ensure optimal transmission, and also magnifies the area.
  • The veins will gradually disappear whilst diffusing high colouring for glowing complexion.

Can all thread veins be treated?

  • Yes, thread veins on all body sites can be treated.
  • The most common areas are facial, chest and leg areas.
  • The most effective areas are seen with light skin, as the treatment relies on the absorption of light, also making the treatment easier.
  • Our advanced system has pre-programmed setting to suit different skin types.

How long does a treatment take?

  • The treatment depends on the area and the number of vessels to be treated.
  • Several vessels can be targeted in one flash.
  • A typical session lasts between 10-20minutes.

Does it hurt?

  • Tolerance of pain is very individual from person to person.
  • It is described as a warm heat sensation or similar to a rubber band snapping onto the skin (This doesn’t last very long.)
  • The hair transmits this heat into the hair, which is then destroyed and unable to produce a new hair.
  • A cool compress is applied to the area followed by a soothing aloe vera gel after treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

  • The number of treatments depends on the area being treated and the severity of the veins.
  • On average the number of treatments are between 1-4.
  • The lengh of time between each treatment is one month

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

  • It is advisable to avoid tanning before and during treatment, otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light.
  • Pale skin benefits more from the treatment.
  • SPF 30 is advisable during and following treatment
  • A cool compress is applied to the area following treatment.
  • After care for the legs, support/surgical stockings must be worn for 2 weeks.
  • Post care and after care is discussed in great detail with each client prior to treatment.
Acne Treatment: FAQ’s

What is Acne and its causes?

  • Acne is a skin disorder caused by the body’s increased production of the hormone androgen which stimulates sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
  • This causes the pores to become blocked so that oil cannot come up to the skins surface which in turn causes red pimples, blackheads and whitehead.
  • Acne occurs in both teenagers and adults.
  • The most common areas are the face, chest, shoulders and back.

Am I suitable for treatment?

  • Those who suffer from inflammatory acne such as sore, red pimples, blackheads or whiteheads will benefit from this treatment.

Wrinkle Reduction: FAQ’s

How does the treatment work?

  • The wrinkle reduction treatment is a two step procedure.
  • First the skin is exfoliated to remove any dead skin.
  • Then the skin is sprayed with INTENSE by Ellipse Photo Spray every 5 minutes for one hour.
  • This spray makes your skin more receptive to the light and reducing wrinkles by collagen stimulation.
  • Once the application of the spray is completed a gel is applied to your face(same used for ultra-sound).
  • Then the laser treatment begins where the visible light is guided over your face 3 times in total.
  • A chemical reaction in the cells triggers the cells to produce more collagen which will eventually lead to a reduction in wrinkles.

How do I use the photo spray?

  • A generous amount will be applied to your face every 5 minutes.
  • Each time it will be rubbed onto your face paying attention to your upper and lower eyelids and mouth.

Is it necessary to use both photo spray and light?

  • Yes, this treatment is a combination treatment.
  • Clinical trials have shown that neither the Photp Spray nor the Light works on its own,the combination of the two is necessary.

Am I suitable for treatment

  • The treatment works on people with mild to moderate wrinkles.
  • Even darker coloured skin can be treated safely and effectively due to the low energy settings.
  • Unlike other laser treatments it is safe to do treatments when you are sun tanned.

Does it hurt?

  • The wrinkle reduction procedure is based on a chemical reaction rather than a thermal reaction.
  • For this reason there is no pain involved just a very slight warm sensation.

Are there any pre or post treatment required?

  • An exfoliating gel is recommended at least one week prior to treatment to remove any dead skin cells.
  • This will allow the light to penetrate the surface more effectively.
  • It also recommended to use an SPF 30 as the skin remains sensitive to light after the treatment.
  • The sunscreen also protects your skin from future sun damage.

How many treatments do I need?

  • Three treatments with three week intervals give optimal results.
  • The wrinkle reduction gradually takes place from one to twelve months after treatment, since collagen production is a slow process.
