How does SkinPen™ work?
SkinPen is a medically engineered ergonomic device that utilizes 14 Japanese stainless steel surgical grade needles to deliver effective vertical skin needling. Different to manual rollers, SkinPen’s precise needle depth settings allow for bespoke targeted individual treatments whilst minimising trauma (roller devices use only one depth and can create ‘slits’ on the skin that can increase downtime).
What makes SkinPen ™ unique?
Unlike the majority of microneedling devices, SkinPen™ has passed over 90 validated requirements to receive CE and FDA certification. It also uses a disposable Bio-Sheath and sealed cartridge system to prevent cross-contamination. The patented technology delivers vertical channels into the skin minimising damage, downtime and discomfort.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes. SkinPen™ clinical treatment may only be performed by a qualified SkinPen™ practitioner. All treatment consumables are single use and sterile.
How soon will I see results?
Results are often seen after just one SkinPen™ treatment, however cumulative treatments (3-6 treatments at 4-6 week intervals) are usually required to achieve the full desired result. The regenerating process will continue for up to 24 months after treatment.
Is it painful?
The unique oscillating system reduces pain by diffusing nerve sensation. We use a local anaesthetic cream prior to your treatment for comfort.
What is the downtime?
Post treatment the skin will be red, warm and possibly a little puffy. You will also experience skin tightness. The main redness improves over the following 3-4 hours, and overall redness usually subsides within 24-48 hours. Skin flaking may also occur in the first few days. These are all normal responses.
What conditions can a SkinPen ™ clinical procedure treat?
SkinPen™ can be used to help various skin issues such as ageing, wrinkles, UV damage, rosacea, acne, dilated pores, milia, scarring, stretch marks and more.
Who is not suitable for this treatment?
SkinPen™ should be avoided in certain situations including the following:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Roaccutane therapy within the last 6 months
- Irritated/inflamed skin in the treatment area (eg very active acne/rosacea)
- Current skin infection eg coldsores, fungal, bacterial
- History of cancer in the previous 5 years
- Bleeding dysfunction and use of blood thinners
- History of keloid scars

Stretch marks are caused by the breakdown of collagen & elastin. They occur when the dermis, the middle layer of your skin, is stretched to the point where collagen breaks down. Microneedling works into the deeper layers by creating micro channels in the skin to build new collagen. A course of treatments is recommended.
